WELCOME COACHES

Welcome Coaches and thank you for volunteering to coach for La Mirada Soccer Association.  LMSA consists of players in our Recreational League, TOPS Soccer and Competitive Program, La Mirada FC. The association administration is run almost entirely by volunteers like yourself. Without the support of volunteers we would not be able to provide soccer to the youth of La Mirada.

The LMSA Recreational League consists of  youth divisions ranging from 4 year olds to 18 year olds.  The divisions are usually broken up into 2 year groups. U6, U8, U10 etc. Year age groups are used.

The Fall season runs from August to late November. With playoffs and All-Star tournaments possible going into January. Spring soccer usually runs from February to May.

U6 through U12 usually play in La Mirada fields. U14 and above , as well as the LMFC teams, usually play other programs in a travel schedule. Usually equal home and away games.

At the beginning of the season and during the season you will be receiving important information from LMSA  staff. Please feel free to ask questions, or inquire about our coaching assistance programs. We are here to help you.

Your initial contact will be the Director of Coaches, who should help with instructions  and information to assist you through the season.

Be sure to take a moment and review the information on this page.  Any forms you may need are on this page and/or are on the Main Menu under About/LMSA Documents and Forms. We hope you'll find it helpful.

Thank you again for your support!  We hope you have a great experience this season.

Things To Do:

  • Meet with LMSA Staff to receive team roster and paperwork.
  • Contact parents ASAP to let them know you will be coach for their child. (Even if you don't plan on practicing till after August 1st or later. Many parents get worried that their child didn't get placed on a team. Especially when friends and neighbor's kids have gotten calls from their coaches.)
  • If you are unable to contact a player, and you have exhausted all the contact info you have, contact LMSA staff ASAP
  • Take coaching class (minimum 4v4 required for U6-U8), 7v7  for U10, 9v9 for U12, and 11v11 for U14 and above. Also complete Risk Management (Live Scan) process.

  • Complete Safe Sport course (mandatory)
  • Pick up team equipment from LMSA staff.  If there are other items you feel you may need you must attain them yourself.
  • Schedule a non-practice  team meeting for everyone.
  • Ask for volunteer Asst Coaches and Team Parent (If you don't have one).  You can have several volunteers to fill these positions but you must designate a primary one.
  • Use the link to the Cal South Rec training videos to get ideas on how to run a practice and games.
  • Create a practice plan.
  • Be sure to complete all the requirements for you and your team staff members to insure that you are issued your Cal South Coach/Team Staff IDs.
  • IDs must be worn at all times you're working with your team. Any and all practices but most importantly at ALL games.
  • August 1st is the official first day practice is allowed so schedule 1st practice on  or after August 1st. For the Spring it is February 1st. Practice starting dates may be subject to change
  • Be sure and work closely with Team Parent to insure everyone is on the same page when it comes to the needs of the team and parents.
